Stadium

Estadio Metropolitano de Techo (Rodrigo Lara Bonilla)

Bogotá, Colombia

Formerly: Hipódromo de Techo

Long before anyone kicked a ball here, punters came for the horses. Hipódromo de Techo opened as a racetrack in the Kennedy locality in 1954, and it was only between 1991 and 1995 that Bogotá's city administration converted the site into a football ground, with architect Álvaro Hermida overseeing the rebuild.

The finished stadium took the name Estadio Metropolitano de Techo Rodrigo Lara Bonilla and settled into La Esperanza Sur, holding 10,000 spectators. A renovation in 2010 and 2011 kept the ground current, but the bigger change came in 2024, when the pitch was relaid ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Workers installed a GrassMaster hybrid surface, natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibres, part of an investment of roughly 8 billion Colombian pesos — the first pitch built to that system anywhere in Colombia.
