Estadio Municipal El Toralín

The ground sits in a flat industrial sector of Ponferrada. It has never been a place of secrets; since its opening on September 5, 2000, the stadium has kept its original name, Estadio Municipal El Toralín.

The interior is bright and open. Players warm up on a pitch of natural grass. There is a video scoreboard visible above the main stand, added during the last round of renovations. The capacity has shifted over time, moving from an initial setup to 8,200 seats before a recent expansion brought it to 8,400. The record crowd, 8,492 people, turned out for a promotion playoff final in June 2025, but the stadium rarely holds that many. Most weekends it is half-full at best.

SD Ponferradina has occupied the ground since its early days, though they once played at a smaller, older pitch called Santa Marta. The club has not stayed in the top flight, but the stadium has hosted Spain’s under-21 team and a women’s side, CD Ponferrada, along the way. The area around the stadium is quiet, with empty lots and apartment blocks nearby. It is not a destination for tourists. Neither the ground nor the town keeps to a schedule anyone outside the football league notices. The surface is cut clean, the seats are filled on match days, and the bridge in the background remains unchanged.
