Estadio Zorros del Desierto

The old ground here came down first: the original Estadio Municipal de Calama, built by the Abaroa family, was levelled in 2013 to make way for something new. What went up on the same ground carries a name the city itself chose — Zorros del Desierto, picked by public vote in 2014 — and it opened on 18 April 2015 with an exhibition between two star XIs, Ronaldinho, Claudio Bravo and Arturo Vidal among them on the night.

Isolux Corsan built it under the Chilean sports institute's supervision, to a FIFA-standard spec, at a cost of roughly $8.66 million. The pitch is natural grass, a ryegrass and bluegrass mix. Argentina came here for a 2026 World Cup qualifier and left with a 2-1 win; the ground's own attendance record fell far more recently, on 7 December 2025, when 11,750 turned out for Cobreloa against Deportes Concepción in the Primera B.

The stadium has not had a clean run. In October 2023 part of the structure carrying the LED screen collapsed, injuring four people; one of them, 26-year-old Dali Escobar, was left paralysed. A fire in the electrical system in March 2024 forced a stoppage during a women's league fixture. Cobreloa have also hosted Copa Libertadores football here, and in December 2016 the ground held a memorial match for the Chapecoense squad lost that year.
