The Gerry Maio Stand is a functional single-storey stand. The reserve is defined by a wide, flat patch of natural grass.

The ground sits at the corner of Garrett Road and Whatley Crescent. It has been here since the Recreation Ground and Hall were inaugurated on February 22, 1907 . The land was bought a few years earlier and sold on the condition that the local Road Board built facilities for the growing suburb of Bayswater. It was once known simply as Bayswater Oval before the name changed in the early 2000s.

Bayswater City SC has called this space home since 1966, having moved from Mount Hawthorn. The club has taken many names since then, but the ground has remained. The attendance capacity is listed at 3,000 , though the stands are rarely full. The biggest crowds have come for knockout tournaments, such as the 2010 WA State League Cup Final or the 2015 National Semi-Final when they beat Hobart Olympia FC 6–0. The highest recorded figure since 2003 was 1,052 for a Australia Cup match against Melbourne Victory in 2014.

The pitch is well-kept, a sharp rectangle of green against the dry brown of the surrounding hills.
