Franklin's Gardens
Northampton, United Kingdom
Formerly: Melbourne Gardens
The ground keeps its original name, even though it was bought and renamed in 1887 . The pitch remains a natural surface — one of only three in the top flight to keep a 100% perennial ryegrass mixture.
The shape of the stadium defines the experience. A series of rebuilds between 2001 and 2016 turned it into an all-seater venue, culminating in the Barwell Stand, which replaced the old Sturtridge Pavilion.
The venue holds a place in local history that no other rugby ground in the Premiership shares. It is the only Premiership stadium with a cenotaph on its grounds, and the club marks the occasion each year with a formal ceremony.
The site has hosted events beyond rugby, including a concert that drew 15,000 people in June 2022 and matches for the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup. It also serves as the home for Loughborough Lightning. The current capacity of 15,249 seats is the result of the final phase of the reconstruction, completed in 2016 .
