Futbalový štadión Martin

The ground sits at the foot of Čebrať Hill. It was built in 1951 and rebuilt between 2011 and 2014 to serve both football and athletics. The renovation, funded by the Žilina region and the city, added a 400-metre track. The seats are limited to the new all-seater section, which holds just under three thousand people.

The surface is natural grass before MŠK Fomat Martin moved to a synthetic pitch elsewhere in 2021. The club’s history is tied to this specific address, Novomeského 1, where they once competed in the Slovak top flight during the 1943–1944 season. The old name, Štadión pod Čebraťom, lingers in local memory, a reminder of the terraced days when the crowd could have stretched to twelve thousand. That era is gone now, replaced by a quieter, more disciplined structure.

The building itself is functional, designed to let the game flow without interruption. The track lanes run alongside the pitch, a feature that changes the rhythm of the evening. The stand faces the hill, not the city centre, which means the wind often comes straight through the enclosure. It is a working ground for the local community. The architect ARK atelier stripped away the old standing areas and replaced them with concrete and steel, creating a space that is easier to manage but less atmospheric. The capacity rests at roughly three thousand, a fraction of its former size, but enough to fill the visible rows on a Saturday afternoon. There is no history of sponsorship names here; the venue keeps its functional title. It is a stadium that serves the sport, not the other way around.
