Gallagher Stadium

The Gallagher Stadium sits on a former Royal Engineers drilling site next to the River Medway, off the A229. It opened on July 14, 2012, after construction began the previous September. The venue was built by the Gallagher Group, who also hold the naming rights, with the Prime Group acting as the architect and project manager.

It was the first stadium in the UK constructed with a 3G artificial turf pitch from its opening; the surface was replaced in June 2024 with a new FieldTurf installation. Before the naming rights were sold to the Gallagher Group in 2012, the stadium was known as James Whatman Way.

The current primary tenant is Maidstone United FC, which has been the sole owner and operator of the stadium since it opened. The club moved to the stadium in 2012, marking a return to their home town after 20 years of ground-sharing at locations including London Road (Allington), Sittingbourne, and Ashford, following the bankruptcy of the original club in 1992. The move was facilitated by securing a Football Foundation grant and resolving previous legal and planning disputes. Other teams have used the venue, most notably Crowborough Athletic, which groundshared there for the 2017–18 season due to delays in their own pitch installation.

The official attendance record is 4,175, set on May 7, 2022, during a National League South match between Maidstone United and Hampton & Richmond Borough. Notable events include the opening friendly on July 14, 2012, against Brighton & Hove Albion (won 5–0), where former Brighton manager Gus Poyet praised the pitch. The stadium hosted its first FA Cup match, a 4–1 victory over Colliers Wood United, and a televised First Round FA Cup Replay against Stevenage FC in 2014, which Maidstone won 2–1. It also hosted a notable FA Cup victory over Macclesfield Town in 2018. The venue has hosted various charity matches and community events, including school cup finals.
