Grünwalder Stadion

Built in 1911 because TSV 1860 Munich had nowhere to play, the stadium has lived through two world wars and countless local derbies. The city took ownership in 1937, and the pitch has seen every rank of German football from the Oberliga down to the Regionalliga.

Bayern Munich played here for nearly fifty years before moving to the Olympiastadion in 1972. 1860 returned in 2017 after a long absence, and now share the ground with Bayern's reserve side. The terraces have been reshaped over the decades — the Westkurve was opened in 2018 to bring capacity back to 15,000 — but the scale remains intimate, the kind of place where you can hear the players shout on the pitch.

A pitch heating system was installed during the 2012–2013 renovation, ensuring the natural grass survives Munich winters. An annual Adventssingen event, where supporters gather to sing Christmas carols, continues to fill the stands each December. The ground has hosted a German championship final and a Monty Python sketch, but its real history is written in the worn concrete and the faces of the regulars who still turn up on Saturday afternoons.
