Hala Sportowa im. Adama Wójcika

The Hala Sportowa im. Adama Wójcika in Kobierzyce carries a name that arrived after the silence of 2010. Before then, this hall was simply the municipal sports complex. The renaming in 2018 was not a ceremony for a club’s history but a correction of a local gap. Adam Wójcik had lived in the village and founded the handball club, and when he died, the hall finally took his name.

It opened in 2011, a full three years after the contract was signed. Construction was handled by Berger Bau Polska, and the project was paid for by the municipality. It was built for handball, and the ORLEN Superliga Kobiet matches that come through here — against Koszalin, Lubin, or Chorzów — are standard fixtures on a Polish winter calendar. The hall holds 800 people.

The most unusual event in its short life was the 2018 Polish Weightlifting Championships, held here in October, just months after Wójcik’s name appeared on the sign. The local press praised the organisation. Handball remains the main reason it is busy. The club, KPR Gminy Kobierzyce, plays its home games here.

The hall serves as a community centre as well as a sports venue, but that is the case for most halls in Poland. Everything inside stays the same.
