The building at Raiffeisenstraße 5 is not a typical sports ground.

The playing surface is a sheet of artificial ice, marked with the standard lines for ice hockey.

The venue was built by the municipal utility company Stadtwerke Weiden and opened in 1987, originally under the name Eisstadion an der Raiffeisenstraße. It was renamed Hans-Schröpf-Arena in 2013 after the former mayor who oversaw its construction. The primary tenant is the ice hockey club Blue Devils Weiden, who compete in the DEL2. The arena also hosted the German national team's qualification tournament for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, a match that secured their place in the Games.

Recent years have seen the building adapted for modern needs. A major expansion in 2021 added the "Devils-Lounge", a business club with eighty seats, while the lighting was upgraded to LED in 2024. An outdoor covered artificial ice surface sits nearby for summer inline hockey, but the main hall is a winter destination.
