The HeliosArena is not a football stadium, but an indoor ice hockey venue in Villingen-Schwenningen. The name is shared with a different ground in Kharkiv. The structure that opened in 1976, although some sources point to an earlier wooden building in 1964.
The current capacity stands at 6,215, a figure that reflects the major expansion undertaken between 2007 and 2010. Before that renovation, which cost 10.5 million euros to address a dilapidated roof and fire safety regulations, the arena held around 5,200 spectators, mostly standing. The later renovation in 2020 reduced that number significantly, converting standing terraces into seats and shrinking the ice rink to NHL dimensions. The surface is artificial ice, and the primary tenant is the Schwenninger Wild Wings, who compete in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
A recorded attendance of 3,555 was noted for a game in 2015, but the venue frequently sells out for DEL matches. The arena has hosted international events, including a match between the Russian and German national teams.
