The Home Credit Arena does not look like the kind of building you would expect to find in a provincial Czech town.

The ground inside is hard and white. This is an ice rink, built for the speed of hockey. The stands rise steeply from the boards, creating a sense of proximity that makes the game feel faster than it is. The team HC Bílí Tygři Liberec plays here, and the crowd is close enough to feel the vibration of the sticks against the ice. When the team is not playing, the ice can be covered by a removable floor, but the silence in an empty arena is always the same.

The light coming through the high windows changes the colour of the ice throughout the day. In the afternoon, the surface is bright and flat; by evening, the shadows lengthen and the room feels larger. The arena was built for speed, and the design still serves that purpose.
