Kai Tak Stadium
Hong Kong, Hong Kong
The ground sits on reclaimed land where planes once landed, but nothing about Kai Tak Stadium feels like an airport hangar. It opened in March 2025 and immediately became the home of the Hong Kong national football team , alongside the national rugby union team.
The pitch uses a flexible system beneath natural turf, allowing the surface to be swapped for concerts and other events. That versatility explains why the schedule fills quickly: major tours have already played here, including Coldplay, Jay Chou, Blackpink and The Weeknd. The 2025 MAMA Awards took place on the same field that hosts AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, such as the opening match against India in June.
Construction lasted six years after the groundbreaking in April 2019, with delays pushed by the pandemic. The total cost for the Kai Tak Sports Park complex — stadium, arena and youth ground — reached approximately HK$29.993 billion. Populous designed the structure alongside Simon Kwan & Associates, while Hip Hing Construction served as the main contractor.
Unlike older venues in Hong Kong, there are no former names to trace and no history of relocation. The stadium has always been Kai Tak Stadium. Kowloon City District SA plays at the adjacent Youth Sports Ground rather than the main arena, so no Hong Kong Premier League club calls this ground home during the season. When the national teams play, however, the terrace fills.
