Lady Bay Sports Ground
Nottingham, United Kingdom
Formerly: Boots Sports Ground
The first photograph captures the Lady Bay Sports Ground from a height, showing a rectangular pitch marked out with white lines surrounded by stands. This is the ground where Nottingham Rugby Club plays their home fixtures, and where Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club sets up a strip for matches.
The history of the site goes back to the turn of the twentieth century, when it was acquired for the Boots Athletic Club. The freehold was purchased in 1920, and the venue has since evolved into a multi-sport facility. For rugby, the ground holds 3,700 spectators, a capacity that was reached on 22 November 2024 during a Premiership Rugby Cup match against Leicester Tigers.
The cricket section adds another layer to the site's identity. There are five strips in total: four are natural grass, while one is artificial, having been constructed in November 2015. The ground has also been a subject of interest for Notts County FC, who, along with the cricket club, bid for joint ownership in 2002.
Unlike the purpose-built arenas seen in the other images, this place is a working ground. It simply exists on 1 Holme Road, shared between two clubs who have kept it in it through the years.
