Macquarie Field

Speers Point, Australia

Macquarie Field The surface is natural grass, but the playing conditions are defined by the high water table that threatens to flood the area, a problem that required the entire field to be raised by 300 millimetres to improve drainage.

The original grandstand, built in 1972, had been a fixture for over half a century before it was replaced. The redevelopment project, completed in early 2026, The new stand is modest, offering seating for 200 people, along with two changerooms and accessible amenities. In 1988, the ground held 5,220 spectators for a 1990 FIFA World Cup qualification match between Australia and Fiji. The result was a comfortable 5–1 victory for the hosts, a day when the local club, Lake Macquarie City FC, was still known as the Roosters.

Today, the ground is the home of the city club, which traces its origins back to 1912 and Scottish miners. They compete in the National Premier Leagues under Northern NSW Football. The venue has hosted more than just local football; it once welcomed the Australian rock band Rose Tattoo for a concert that also featured The Radiators and Dragon.
