Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore

Two clubs share this ground. It went up for A.C. Reggiana 1919 after the club climbed into Serie A, replacing the old Stadio Mirabello, and it opened in April 1995 with a match against Juventus. The gates were held to 24,500 that day on safety grounds rather than the 30,000 the ground had been built to take, and the 22,664 who came through them still stand as the attendance record.

What followed was a long contraction. In 2004 the "I Petali" shopping centre went up alongside and the capacity came down with it; safety work in 2008 cut it further, to a little over 20,000. The rebuilding only came when a second club needed the place: U.S. Sassuolo Calcio reached Serie A in 2013, and the ground was fitted with a hybrid pitch, undersoil heating and new seats.

The names tell the same story of changing hands. It began as Stadio Giglio — the lily of Florence. In 2012 the municipality renamed it Stadio Città del Tricolore , for the Italian flag first made in Reggio Emilia in 1797.

Finals have come here without the crowds to match: the 2016 UEFA Women's Champions League final between Wolfsburg and Lyon drew 15,117; the 2020 Supercoppa Italiana was played behind closed doors; the 2021 Coppa Italia final admitted 4,300.
