Myreside Stadium
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Formerly: New Myreside
Myreside sits quietly in the Morningside district of Edinburgh, close to the college grounds that share its postcode. The ground opens onto Myreside Road. The pitch itself is a rectangular strip of natural grass, flanked by modest stands that rarely fill beyond their standard capacity. On a matchday, the sounds travel a long way, but the noise is contained; the stand walls are low, and the road beyond is never far away.
What the ground is known for is not scale but survival. The pavilion was damaged by fire in February 2020, leaving the interior charred and the club without a bar, changing rooms or hospitality space. The rebuild was completed in January 2022, funded largely by local donations and a campaign that raised £600,000. Inside, the woodwork is new but conservatively finished, and the rooms are small — one is called the Hastings Room, named after a former player, with a brass plaque on the door and a view through a metal grille into a gallery where framed photographs hang in a row. The atmosphere is not that of a cathedral; it is a community hall that happens to overlook a rugby pitch.
Edinburgh Rugby used the ground for two spells: a brief period in the mid-1990s and again between 2017 and 2018, when temporary terracing was added to hold more than 13,000 supporters for a European Challenge Cup quarter-final. The club has since returned to Murrayfield, and Myreside is back to its rugby union roots, hosting Watsonians RFC and domestic finals.
