The capacity has fluctuated with the years, swelling to nearly 29,000 for a Cup Final in 1947 before being tightened by modern safety regulations, but the physical footprint has not changed. What has changed is the state of the buildings.

The primary use of the ground is not for the top-flight team that once played here. That tenure ended when the Wankdorf was rebuilt, and the first team moved on. Now the ground is home to the reserve sides and the local amateur clubs, including FC Bern, who play in the third tier. A record attendance of 28,661 was set here long before the current era, a number that was achieved in a final against Lausanne-Sport, but the ground rarely fills to such heights now. The surface is natural grass, maintained through a public-private partnership that has overseen the addition of new training pitches alongside the main stadium.
