Nuevo Campo Municipal
Villarrubia de los Ojos, Spain
The ground does not announce itself by its scale. It is not the crowd size that draws a reader’s eye to the Nuevo Campo Municipal, but the geometry of its main stand.
The pitch itself is marked with artificial turf, its surface a uniform green that reflects the light evenly, without the worn patches that characterize older natural grounds.
What distinguishes this venue from other municipal grounds in Castilla-La Mancha is the clarity of its redevelopment. The stadium replaced the old Campo Municipal de Deportes El Cordón, which had served the town since 1959, and the facility opened on 21 September 2008. The playing surface was changed from natural grass to synthetic in 2018, and in 2022 the municipality removed the public toilets that had bisected the western stand, replacing them with a temporary terrace and scoreboard along the halfway line.
The atmosphere here is shaped by its location on the edge of Villarrubia de los Ojos. On matchdays, the crowd gathers under the main stand’s cover while the rest of the terraces remain exposed to the sun. The stadium’s identity is tied to Villarrubia CF, which has competed in the lower tiers of Spanish football since the club’s reformation.
