Nykøbing F. Hallen

Nykøbing F. Hallen sits on Nørre Boulevard 4A. For a decade and more, the older main hall—currently sponsored as Lånlet Arena—was the heart of the site, holding just under 1,450 spectators and serving as the home for Nykøbing Falster Håndboldklub. The club won its first Danish Championship in 2017, but the venue could not hold them when the fixtures grew too large for the room. European matches sometimes had to move across the island to Arena Næstved.

The new arena, Guldboxen, changed that equation. Opened in August 2023, it offers 3,000 spectators, with 2,500 seated places, and synthetic flooring that mirrors the older hall’s surface. The club reached the EHF European League final in 2023. The building itself, designed by GPP Arkitekter and constructed by Gråkjær Erhverv A/S, belongs to Guldborgsund Municipality.

The complex does not limit itself to handball. Concerts fill the space when the sport is quiet, with acts such as Ørkenens Sønner and Kandis drawing crowds that would not fit into the old Lånlet Arena. Football, the town’s other major pursuit, plays elsewhere at Nykøbing Falster Idrætspark, a separate ground with a natural grass surface and a capacity of 10,000. The distinction matters: one venue carries the handball club’s immediate history; the other serves the football side. Between them, the town’s sporting life splits and rejoins according to the season.

The older hall remains in use alongside the new arena, but the centre of gravity has moved toward Guldboxen. A club that once played high-profile matches in rented halls now hosts them at home, and the town has built a space that works for sport and for music without fussing over the difference between the two.
