Patinoarul Cârța

Patinoarul Cârța sits in the Harghita County of Romania. Built originally as an outdoor rink, the facility saw its first ice poured in January 2005.

The dimensions are standard, 60 by 30 meters, but the atmosphere is shaped by its location. The capacity is modest, holding 1,000 spectators who watch from close quarters. The surface is artificial ice, maintained for local competition rather than international spectacle.

ACS Sapientia U23, a team affiliated with Sapientia University, has found a home here since the facility’s transformation. The club, founded in 2005 as CSHC Marton Aron and rebranded in 2018, plays its matches in the Romanian National Hockey League (Liga Națională de hochei) and the Erste Liga. Other teams have passed through, including Háromszéki Ágyúsok, though records on their primary venue are inconsistent. The investment that created the space was valued at approximately 3 million euros, funded by the Compania de Investiții, a move that reflected the region’s commitment to keeping winter sports alive despite limited resources.

There is no official website for the arena, and no specific attendance records for individual matches have been documented. The facility remains functional, used when the need arises, without fanfare. It does not claim to be a temple of sport; it is simply a place where ice is kept, games are played, and young players develop their skills away from the pressure of larger arenas.
