Ramaz Shengelia Stadium

The stadium in Kutaisi has carried three names across its life, and each marks a different regime's idea of what deserved commemoration — Central first, then Givi Kiladze, now Ramaz Shengelia. Construction began in 1950 against a design drawn up two years earlier, and local sides were already playing there by 1957, though the builders kept working around them: lighting, interior finishing, the details that make a ground presentable rather than merely usable. That work was not declared finished until 2 May 1962.

The 2010 reconstruction brought the ground to its current form, and it now holds about 12,000, though older counts run as high as 14,700 — a gap that reflects how the renovation reshaped capacity rather than any dispute worth dwelling on.

Georgia's national team has used the ground sparingly but consistently over the decades, from a friendly against Azerbaijan in 2001 through Belarus in 2017 to Cape Verde in 2025. Its most significant recent test came in 2023, when it hosted matches at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, putting Kutaisi in front of an audience well beyond the club football that fills it the rest of the year.
