Rigihalle

The building in Küssnacht am Rigi does not look like a cathedral of sport. It began as a cooperative project for ice, opened in 1978.

The roof came down in 1997, sealed the space and gave it a name that sounds like a place in Latvia, though it is firmly in the Canton of Schwyz. You can see the players without straining your neck.

The insulation is poor. The building does not meet current energy norms.

There are concerts here, and tournaments for Bavarian curling, but the core identity is tied to the ice.

It is recorded in the repairs and the extensions. The roof-raising ceremony in 1997 marked the shift from outdoor rink to indoor hall, but the soul of the place has remained unchanged.
