Scandinavium

Scandinavium sits in the Heden district of Gothenburg. The building is defined by the way it holds its shape. The locals call it «Kålleseum». When the lights come on, the effect is immediate. The 61 by 30 metres of natural ice is the heart of the place. It is the stage for Frölunda HC, who have played here since the doors opened. For the Handbollsligan, the surface is swapped for sand. The capacity is never the same; the room breathes differently for a concert than it does for a World Championship match.

What marks the building is its roof. The tram runs straight past the entrance on Valhallagatan. The venue has been expanded, renovated, and updated, but the core remains.
