Soyu Stadium in Akita carries the weight of a long history, having opened in September 1941. The original structure from the wartime era was eventually replaced by a complete rebuild in 1981, giving the venue its current concrete form.
The modernisation is evident in the four tall Panasonic LED light towers that now frame the arena, alongside a large digital scoreboard positioned opposite the main stand.
Before it became the home of Blaublitz Akita in 2010, the venue hosted the World Games athletics in 2001 and the National Sports Festival. The capacity for official matches sits at 18,560, a far cry from the 27,090 crowd that once gathered for an athletics meet in the 1990s.
While the stadium occasionally hosts Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo to escape winter snow, its primary identity is tied to Akita City.
