Sparekassen Thy Arena | Mors
Thisted, Denmark
Formerly: Lerpytter Stadion
The ground in Thisted sits apart from the town centre, tucked into the Lerpytter district. It has stood there since 1988, long before the club of that name arrived the following year. The site was never built for Thisted FC, which formed from the football section of Thisted Idrætsklub, but the stadium quickly became its home. For decades it carried the simple name Lerpytter Stadion, until a sponsorship deal with Sparekassen Thy pushed a rename in 2008.
The pitch itself is natural grass, kept in play by under-soil heating and floodlights that provide 1000 lux of illumination. The capacity is roughly 4,000, though the fixed seating accounts for only 754 places. When the women’s team FC Thy-Thisted Q moved in during 2017, they found a venue that had already hosted many matches. The club was formed by merging the women’s sections of Thisted FC with players from five other local sides, and they have stayed put since.
The most distinct feature is the way the ground handles larger crowds. Temporary stands can be added to push the capacity up to 6,000 for matches that draw extra attention.
