Sporthal De Looierij

Mill is a town in North Brabant, and its sports life centres on a single building: Sporthal De Looierij. Located at Brandsestraat 1C, the hall has stood since the turn of the 1980s.

The year 1981 marked a shift. MHV '81, the local handball club, began playing within its walls shortly after being formed. For over four decades, the venue has served as a home for several local groups. Vamos Volleybal draws players from Mill and neighbouring villages, while Badminton Club Mill operates within the same space. The diversity of activities is the hall’s strength.

Nothing about the building has changed its identity. It has never carried another name. What has changed is the interior. A major renovation funded by the municipality in 2023 modernised the facilities. New wall panels and improved lighting replaced the old fixtures. The changing rooms and showers were updated, ensuring the space meets current standards.

There is a history here that runs deeper than the recent work. Patrick Weren managed the canteen, known as Patrick’s Bar, for 35 years before handing it over recently. That kind of continuity is rare. The hall does not chase prestige; it simply functions. It hosts matches, training sessions, and social gatherings without fuss.

The surface beneath the feet is standard for an indoor court, though the exact material is not recorded. Seating capacity is not a figure that circulates in Mill; people remember who played there, not how many watched. The building remains a practical place. It serves the clubs that use it and the families that support them. There is no need for more than that.
