Sporthal 't Zijveld

Sporthal 't Zijveld stands apart because it was built by hands that needed it. The local handball club, HV VZV, constructed the hall through significant self-help efforts in 1989. This is a place that knows the value of its own roof. The structure sits in the village of 't Veld, part of the Hollands Kroon municipality in North Holland. It is not a cathedral of sport, but a functional room where the game is played on a synthetic floor.

What makes this hall different from a generic community centre is the intensity of the matches it has held. In the 2019–20 Women's EHF Challenge Cup, the quiet village became a stage for European competition. The hall hosted two crucial fixtures for JuRo Unirek/V.Z.V. First, a victory against Italian side SSV Brixen Südtirol, followed by a tough quarterfinal first-leg defeat to Spanish giants KH-7 BM Granollers. It was not a friendly exhibition; it was a tie that mattered.

There is also a memory of music within these walls. Before the handball became the primary focus, the space hosted a concert by the Dutch rock band Golden Earring in October 1992. It has never changed its name, unlike many venues that trade identity for sponsorship. It remains Sporthal 't Zijveld. The artificial surface is standard for indoor handball in the Netherlands, providing a consistent bounce regardless of the weather outside.
