Sporthal Tijenraan does not try to be a monument. Commissioned by the Municipality of Raalte and Sportbedrijf Raalte, the complex replaced a demolished predecessor in 2018. It opened officially on February 2, 2020, though the project management wrapped up a few months later. The building is energy-neutral, relying on heat pumps and waste heat recovery rather than fossil fuels.
Inside, the main hall holds 800 spectators. The floor is a working surface, cleaned by a robot to remove resin, which suggests a wooden sports floor typical for handball, though the exact material is not explicitly confirmed. The entrance hall features a rubber floor installed by Boerhof Projectinrichters. The primary tenant is HV Kwiek, a handball club, which uses the hall for senior and youth teams.
