Inside, the distinction between sport and spectacle is maintained by the surface. The Technical University of Hamburg assessed the damage, and by October 2021, the hall was safe to reopen. The repairs included the installation of a new retractable stand on the south side, adding to the capacity for those who come to watch HSV Hamburg play handball. The building remains owned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, a public asset that holds the 1978 World Fencing Championships and the 2017 World Boxing Championships in its archives.
