Sportplatz Fortuna 05 (Krottenbacheralm)
Vienna, Austria
Formerly: Sportplatz Fortuna 05, Fortuna-Platz, ASKÖ 19 Platz
The ground sits quietly in the Döbling district, tucked beside the Hugo Wolf Park. It is not a monument of steel and glass like the ones built for international tournaments. For decades, the pitch has been known by different names—Sportplatz Fortuna 05, Fortuna-Platz, or simply the Krottenbacheralm.
The surface tells the story of the club’s financial ups and downs. In 1964, when the venue was officially opened after years of lobbying by members like Franz Fachet, the ground was simply red earth. It took until 1992 for the artificial turf, Kunstrasenplatz, to arrive, a modernisation that promised durability but offered little glamour. When that surface needed replacing in 2006, the timing was unfortunate; the club had just been relegated from the Regionalliga Ost.
Capacity is modest. With room for roughly 800 spectators, the stands are not designed to roar but to watch. The floodlights allow play to continue after dark, a necessity for lower-league fixtures in the Wiener Stadtliga or the 2. Landesliga Wien. There are no records of massive crowds or historic upsets etched into the stone. The attendance figures hover between 90 and 300. The venue remains functional, managed in part by WSE – Sport Wien, providing a consistent stage for the club’s ongoing efforts.
