The Stade Aimé Giral in Perpignan takes its name from a former fly-half, one of those commemorated on a memorial from the club’s original ground, moved here in 1940. The blue seats curve around the hybrid pitch.
The recent investments have been practical: new Schréder floodlights to meet league regulations and the synthetic reinforcement of the surface for durability.
It has hosted international rugby league, including tests against New Zealand and Australia, and more recently, the women’s Six Nations.
An arson attack destroyed the commentator area and damaged the roof of the Chevalier stand.
