Stade Albert Domec
Carcassonne, France
Formerly: Stade de la Pépinière
The gate is the first thing you notice. The arch frames the ground beyond, and you can see the stands waiting behind it. It is a solid, unapologetic entrance for a place that has seen its share of history.
The stadium has been here since 1928, though the land was first used for sport much earlier. That track is gone now, replaced by a proper side stand after the rugby league team earned their promotion. The capacity stretches to 10,200.
The surface is natural grass, and it was recently renovated to handle the drainage better. You can see the green through the gate, flat and ready.
It is a working ground for rugby and football in Carcassonne. The teams that play here—US Carcassonne, AS Carcassonne XIII, and the local football side—know what they are dealing with. Today, the stadium hosts matches for the French Rugby League World Cup qualifiers and other tournaments. It is a place that does not need to shout to be remembered.
