The concrete came later than the ground itself — wooden stands lasted until 1955, when they were rebuilt in concrete, and the venue took its most substantial form between 2004 and 2008, when a reconstruction credited to architect Michel Remon reshaped the stands and pushed capacity past 21,600 before it settled at its current number. That job carried a price put at somewhere between fifty and sixty million euros, depending on which account is consulted.

The pitch has hosted football beyond the club's own fixtures. Hungary beat the Dutch East Indies 6-0 here in a first-round match at the 1938 World Cup, and in 2019 the ground took its turn at the Women's World Cup, staging six matches including one in the last sixteen. The record crowd, though, belongs to a domestic night: 27,774 came through the gates on 2 June 1987 for the Coupe de France semi-final second leg against Olympique de Marseille, a tie Reims lost 5-1.
