The pitch is natural grass, and it has been that way since the site opened, though the structure itself is much younger. The current building dates from 1990. The older ground was named for Fred Aubert, a former club president who died in the First World War. The recent work changed the look of the place entirely. The old earth embankments that once held thousands of spectators were pulled out. In their place rose a new grandstand with modern seating and better facilities. The capacity dropped significantly during the process, settling at 5,101 seats after the renovation finished in late 2024. The old records are gone with the old stands. The highest attendance, 10,600 people, was set in 1994 during a match against Olympique de Marseille, a game that ended in a narrow defeat for the home side. The stadium sees occasional visitors from further afield. It hosted a match for the French women’s national team in a Euro 2008 qualifier, and later games for the Brittany national team. It also took part in a global tournament, staging matches for the 2018 Under-20 Women’s World Cup. Most days, however, it belongs to Stade Briochin. The club has moved through the leagues since then, finding promotion and facing relegation in equal measure. The ground remains a quiet corner of the city, separated from the surrounding streets by high fencing and guarded walkways.

The Stade Fred-Aubert stands as the home of Stade Briochin in Saint-Brieuc. While the current structure dates from 1990, the site has hosted local football since 1940, when it was originally opened and named after club legend Fred Aubert.
