Stade Maurice-Boyau
Dax, France
Formerly: Parc Municipal des Sports
Stade Maurice-Boyau holds a track around its perimeter, though the red surface is no longer used for running. It remains as a boundary, keeping the stands apart from the pitch.
The ground is home to US Dax, who play in the second division of French rugby. The venue has hosted giants. Biarritz Olympique played their matches here while their own home was being rebuilt. The grass is natural, one of the last true lawns in the professional leagues. It is not covered by heating pipes, only a tarp to keep the soil warm after heavy rain.
The name on the stadium is not the original one. It used to be Parc Municipal des Sports, a functional title for a public park. The change came later, honouring Maurice Boyau, a pilot and aviator from the First World War who played for the local side in the early 1900s. That update stripped away the track and added a modern all-seater stand, reducing the crowd but improving the view.
