Stade Pierre-Rajon

The south terrace at Stade Pierre-Rajon presents a study in modern sport. Beneath the overhang, the concrete wall is lined with advertising boards.

This structure replaced the original South Tribune in 2022. The renovation was not merely cosmetic; it swapped standing room for hospitality. The three-story addition holds a brasserie on the ground floor, eight VIP boxes above that, and reception salons on the second level. The priority shifted toward comfort. The pitch itself remains natural grass, covered in protective sheets when frost sets in, rather than relying on artificial heating.

While the ground shares its name with the city of Bourgoin-Jallieu, the local rugby union club, CS Bourgoin-Jallieu, shares the stage with footballers from FC Bourgoin-Jallieu. The stadium has also seen visitors from further afield. Olympique Lyonnais have used the venue for pre-season friendlies, testing themselves against teams like Torino and Getafe. The women’s side of Lyon has also played here, facing Juventus Turin in 2024.

History runs deeper than these temporary guests. The ground was originally opened as the Parc des Sports in 1923, built by Pierre Rajon, who later became mayor and whose name the stadium eventually took in 1974. The crowd record, 13,425 people, was set during a Top 14 match against Racing Paris in 2011. Even after the recent changes, the ground retains a sense of its origins, sitting quietly in its corner of Isère.
