Stadionul Unirea
Alba Iulia, Romania
Formerly: Stadionul Victoria-Cetate
Stadionul Cetate in Alba Iulia sits under a wide Romanian sky. The pitch stretches out in neat, mown stripes. The ground has a quiet, working-day feel.
It is a stadium that has seen change without losing its shape. The municipality built it in 1982, and it has served local teams ever since. CSM Unirea Alba Iulia plays here, alongside CSU Rugby Alba Iulia. The 2024 renovation brought a new layer of natural turf over the old surface. Heated under-soil pipes and an automatic sprinkler system followed quickly, paid for with nearly two million lei. An athletics track had already been rebuilt in 2021 for almost three million lei, preparing the way for the football pitch upgrade. Seating was installed in 2004 to meet the requirements of the top flight. The address is Strada Septimius Severus, Nr.
The ground does not look for attention. It sits between the town and the surrounding hills, with the grass cut short and the seats painted blue. It is a place where players warm up before stepping onto the turf, and where officials walk through the gates before the whistle blows. It is a stadium that has lived through decades without becoming anything more than what it is: a working ground in Alba Iulia, where the grass grows green and the seats wait for the crowd.
