The name arrived with the building and has not changed since: Stadiumi Liman Gegaj honours a local figure, Liman Gegaj, and no earlier title is recorded for the ground. Nor is there a record of anything standing on the site before it. This was a new build rather than a reworking of an older pitch, and the people who put it up are not named anywhere.

The club came first. FC Malisheva , also written KF Malisheva, was formed in 2016 before the stadium opened on 8 December 2018. Everything published about the venue since then has gone out through the club — there is no separate site for the stadium itself, and the club's pages carry what little detail exists.
