The Heidi Horten Arena presents a difficult case for description because it is not a football ground. The building opened in November 1959 as the Eisstadion Klagenfurt, an ice rink for the local hockey team, the EC KAC (Klagenfurter Athletiksport Club).

For decades, the hall sat in the shadow of the nearby football stadium, the Wörthersee Stadion, but its purpose was entirely different. That changed in October 2022. The interior was gutted and rebuilt, reducing the capacity from roughly 5,500 to 4,409 seats.
