Szusza Ferenc Stadion

The pitch at Megyeri út has been played on since 1922, and the ground around it was drawn up by Alfréd Hajós. Construction ran across 1921 and 1922, and the gates opened on 17 September 1922.

For eighty years the place was known simply by its street: Megyeri úti Stadion. That changed at the turn of 2002 and 2003, when it took the name of Ferenc Szusza (1923–2006). The old name has not gone away — Újpest supporters and match reports still reach for Megyeri út as often as for the newer one.

It is home to Újpest FC, and the ground has staged championship-deciding matches since its first season. Capacity now stands at 12,670.

The surface is worth a word. Since the turn to GrassMaster, the pitch is natural grass stitched through with roughly twenty million synthetic fibres. It is the same system laid at the Hidegkuti and Illovszky grounds and at the Puskás Aréna.
