Trio Areena

The ground in Viertola does not look like a ground. It is an indoor arena, and the air inside is kept at 5°C while the ice sits at -6°C. The pitch is not grass and never has been. It is an artificial surface, a slab of concrete with roughly 17 km of cooling pipes laid in a 75–80 mm grid beneath the playing area. The floor was replaced in a renovation finished around 2023, and the refrigeration system was renewed at the same time under the direction of the Finland-based contractor NCC.

The building opened in 1974 as an ice hockey hall, but it is not a hall any longer. It underwent a major overhaul and reopened as a multi-purpose arena in January 2001. The original architect is not found, but the facility now carries the name Kuljetusrinki Areena, a change made for sponsorship reasons. It was once Valtti Areena, and before that Tikkurilan jäähalli. The specific dates for these changes are not confirmed.

The space inside is tight. The capacity is 3,700 for concerts, though it shrinks to just over 2,000 for ice hockey. The home side is Kiekko-Vantaa, which plays in the Finnish Liiga, the top professional league. The arena has also hosted training and playoff matches for Jokerit. The address is Läntinen Valkoisenlähteentie 52–54, a location that is easy to find but hard to mistake for anything else.
