Virtue Field

Virtue Field in Burlington is not defined by its age so much as by its purpose. It opened in 2012 to serve as a dedicated home for the University of Vermont Catamounts, replacing older grounds like Moulton Winder Field. The facility sits on the university campus and is primarily a ground for soccer and lacrosse, though it now also hosts professional matches for the USL League Two side Vermont Green FC.

With an official capacity of 2,500, the space feels tight, allowing the crowd to roar the team on without the noise dissipating into empty air.

One of the first night games played here took place in November 2015, when the university side defeated UMBC in overtime. That match marked the beginning of evening fixtures at the ground. The field itself is covered in artificial turf, a surface chosen for its durability in the local climate. While the ground is known for its small size, it has seen significant moments. In May 2022, Vermont Green FC played their inaugural home game, drawing a crowd of 1,001 fans to watch the new professional team. More recently, on August 2, 2025, the venue hosted the USL League Two Championship Final, where Vermont Green FC secured their first national title against the Western Mass Pioneers.

The donation that funded the build came from James Edward "Ted" and Danielle "Dani" Virtue, and the name remains a constant reminder of their support for the university's athletics programme.
