Wrigley Field

The ivy on the brick outfield walls is the first thing you notice. The greenery, planted in 1937, covers the historic perimeter and gives the field its particular look.

Wrigley Field sits in the Wrigleyville neighbourhood of Chicago, close to the Lakeview community area. The playing surface is natural grass, specifically Merion bluegrass, and it requires care to keep it in condition. The stadium opened in 1914, and while it has seen many changes to its seating capacity over the decades, the basic layout remains recognisable. The current capacity stands at 41,649, but the building has lived through different eras, from its days as Weeghman Park to its time as Cubs Park before settling on its current name in November 1926.

The ground has hosted other events, including concerts and football games, but it belongs to the baseball team that plays there.
