Yud-Alef Stadium does not carry a sponsor's name. What it carries instead is a date. On 17 July 1973 the ground was renamed in memory of the eleven Israeli athletes killed at the Munich Olympics the previous summer — Yud-Alef being the Hebrew letters for "eleven".
Before that renaming, the pitch belonged to a scattering of Ashdod outfits — Maccabi Ashdod, Beitar Ashdod, Hapoel Ashdod among them. That fragmentation ended in 1999, when the clubs merged into a single F.C. Ashdod.
