It replaced the old Spartak Stadium, which had stood on the site since 1949. The new arena was built to mark the tenth anniversary of independence, though the crowd has settled at 25,830 since the standing areas were converted to plastic seats. It has hosted several clubs over the years, but the most notable visitors came for the 2011 Ukrainian Cup Final, when Dynamo Kyiv played Shakhtar Donetsk in front of 27,800 . The surface is natural grass, kept by a specialist firm.
