Zimný štadión Liptovský Mikuláš
Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia
Formerly: Enel Aréna, SE Aréna
This is the winter stadium in Liptovský Mikuláš, a place that has shed its skin several times over the decades.
It began as an outdoor rink in 1932. For a long time, the sponsors held sway over the name: Enel Aréna, then SE Aréna, before the current identity took hold for the 2017/2018 season. The structure is not new, but it was recently gutted. The old roof was dismantled and the north stand rebuilt, adding 900 seats to the mix. The capacity sits at 3,680, though the home team rarely fills the stands.
MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš plays here, competing in the Tipos Extraliga. The surface is natural ice, kept cold by a system that was completely overhauled in 1996. It has hosted national matches and international tournaments, including two Winter Universiade games. When the local side plays, the stadium falls silent until the puck drops. The highest crowd for a recent fixture was 1,570, a modest number for the space, but the pressure is felt none the less. The building does not try to be anything other than what it is: a functional shell for winter sport in the Slovak mountains.
