Joshua Mees

Joshua Mees scored in the 90th minute of the 2021 DFB-Pokal quarter-final against Rot-Weiss Essen, a goal that took Holstein Kiel through to the semi-finals. On 18 January 2025 he scored late again, this time for Preußen Münster. Against Greuther Fürth he got two goals, the second a winner in the third minute of stoppage time.

Goals came early for him. He grew up in Lebach, played for FV Lebach and then 1. FC Saarbrücken, and from 2011 was in the academy at Hoffenheim. There he won the German U19 title and the Süd/Südwest division of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga twice, in 2014 and 2015. In 2015 he was the division's top scorer with 20 goals. He also played twice for Germany at U20 level.

His professional career started at Hoffenheim, but it was largely spent elsewhere. He went on loan to SC Freiburg, whose season ended with the 2. Bundesliga title and promotion, and later to Jahn Regensburg. In 2018 he joined Union Berlin on a free transfer, and the club won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2019. He moved to Kiel in 2020, again on a free transfer, and spent a further loan spell at Regensburg in 2022–2023. Back at Kiel, he was central to the side that won the 2. Bundesliga in 2024.

Both feet are usable, which lets him play on the left wing or in an attacking midfield role. Münster signed him as a free agent in July 2024. In his first season there he scored nine goals and made seven assists in 28 league games, and he also played once in the cup. Across his senior career he has 47 league goals in 186 appearances.
