About the player
Kaloyan Kostov left Bulgaria as a teenager and came back without having played a senior match abroad. He started out at Septemvri Sofia. In September 2020 he moved to the Benfica academy and stayed until June 2023, when he left as a free agent. He made no first-team appearances for the Portuguese club.
His return to Bulgaria came the same month. Kostov joined Lokomotiv Plovdiv on a free transfer and spent three seasons there. He played 24 league matches and scored once. In 2026 he was a runner-up in the Bulgarian Cup.
In July 2026 he moved to Lokomotiv Sofia .
Kostov has also played for Bulgaria's youth teams. He won six caps for the under-17s in 2019 and 2020, and six more for the under-21s in 2023 and 2024.
