Gryf Wejherowo

Wojciech Pięta is the name still tied to Gryf Wejherowo's one big run, when the club reached the quarterfinals of the Polish Cup in the 2011–12 season, beating Olimpia Grudziądz, Zawisza Bydgoszcz, Sandecja Nowy Sącz, Korona Kielce and Górnik Zabrze in turn before Legia Warszawa ended the run. That season also took Gryf into the II liga, the highest level the club has ever reached, though it has since settled back into the regional game and now plays in IV liga pomorska.

The club traces itself to 1921, when it started out as TS Kaszubia, making it the oldest football side in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It took the name Gryf only after the Second World War, absorbing the old Sokół, Siła and Strzelec associations, before further renamings in 1952 and 1998 settled it as WKS Gryf Wejherowo.

Beyond the first team, Gryf carries a boxing section that produced Olympic medallists Hubert Skrzypczak and Henryk Dampc, alongside bowling and bridge.

Where Gryf has kept winning is the regional cup: five titles in the Pomeranian Polish Cup, most recently in 2023. Those finals tend to run into the same names — Bałtyk Gdynia, Bytovia Bytów, Orkan Rumia and Orzęta Reda.
